In just two minutes and 24 seconds, the Marion County Library Board was dissolved during a special meeting Thursday night. The meeting, called by County Judge Jason Stumph and board chair Linda Ramos, focused on personnel matters following the arrest and dismissal of library director Dana Scott on Tuesday. All four board members including Vice Chair Peggy Pentkowski, Treasurer Amy Brown, and Secretary Megan Lynch, were present.

Judge Stumph addressed the board, stating the Board’s duties include not only self-governance but also overseeing the library director. He explained that he could not legally hold one individual accountable while allowing others to not.

Stumph stated, “It is not a personal decision with any of the members, but a moral decision.” He emphasized that the board is responsible for holding the director accountable and overseeing their actions.

Judge Stumph then relieved all members of their duties and announced he would bring the matter to a vote before the Marion County Quorum Court on Tuesday to officially vacate the positions. He added that he is open to considering former members for reappointment but, as of now, all positions are vacant.

The meeting was adjourned shortly thereafter.

The Marion County Quorum Court is scheduled to meet Tuesday at 6.
