The Salem High School football team is one win away from its first state championship game appearance. The Greyhounds will make their third semifinal appearance in eight years as they travel to Mansfield to continue the Class 3A State Playoffs.
Salem currently has a 10-3 record and is on a seven-game winning streak. Greyhounds’ head coach Josh Watson says his team has significantly improved as the year has continued.

During the postseason, Salem’s defense has been able to hold West Fork, Prescott and Rivercrest to under 20 points. Watson says their regular season finale was a wake-up call when they gave up 35 points to Quitman in the first half.

Mansfield brings an 11-2 record into the semifinals. Last year, it was the Tigers that knocked the Greyhounds out of the playoffs on their home field. Watson says his team had this game marked before they played Rivercrest.
