The citizens of Cotter are grieving the loss of Peter Peitz, a cherished leader and philanthropist, who passed away on Nov. 26, 2024. Known for his boundless generosity and unwavering commitment to the community, Peitz’s impact on Cotter and Baxter County will be remembered for generations.

In his honor, the iconic Cotter Bridge will be illuminated nightly from Dec. 8 through Dec. 14. Each evening, the lights will display a unique color scheme corresponding to a story shared about Peitz’s life and contributions. For those unable to visit Big Spring Park to view the lights in person, a live stream will be available via the Cotter Bridge Live Webcam.

Peter and his wife, Jan Peitz, were instrumental in the installation of the Cotter Bridge lighting, an effort that inspired additional donations and created a lasting legacy for the community. The lights, named the Peitz River Lights, are a testament to their dedication to Cotter’s spirit and vibrancy.
