The Salem High School girls’ basketball team suffered its first loss of the season in the championship game of the Williams Baptist University High School Tournament Saturday at Walnut Ridge. Salem lost to another group of Lady Greyhounds from Sloan-Hendrix 73-53. Hadley Reed was Salem’s top scorer with 20 points, Natalie Burk finished with 11, and Jailyn Strong ended up with 10. Salem falls to 6-1 on the season.
Izard County’s boys finished sixth in the Barry Pruitt Hurricane Classic at Jonesboro. The Cougars were defeated by Paragould 47-42.
The Mountain View girls ended up seventh in the VTown Showdown at Vilonia. The Lady Yellowjackets invoked the mercy rule as they beat up on Russellville 73-41.
Lead Hill had mixed results on the opening day of the Green Forest Holiday Tournament.
In a battle between Tigers, Lead Hill got past the host school 47-41. Noah Royce paced Lead Hill with 18 points, and Kaden Baker added 13.
Lead Hill was one and done on the girls’ side. The Lady Tigers fell to Berryville 72-34.
