The North Arkansas Fly Fishers (NAFF) will host their annual Beginners Fly Tying Class on select Monday evenings in January and February. Sessions will run from 6 to 8 on Jan. 6, Jan. 13, Jan. 27, and Feb. 3 in the Ozarks Regional Arts Council Conference Room at The Sheid on the Arkansas State University-Mountain Home campus.

The class costs $27 and includes a one-year NAFF membership. Space is limited.

Participants will learn the basic principles of fly tying with all tools and materials provided. Students will learn how to tie two different flies and will tie two of each and will be able to take them home to use on local rivers. Mentors will be on site to give one-to-two or one-to-one assistance.

The class will be taught by experienced fly fishers Dave Boyer and Mike Tipton, who have more than 20 years of experience in the sport and on local waters. Both have previously taught fly tying courses.

Tommy Hagan and Head of Education Ceil Gasiecki say this is a great class for anyone interested in outdoor activities, even if they’ve never tried fly fishing before.

Membership in NAFF gives members access to many great opportunities to learn more about fly fishing and participate in fly fishing events. Membership grants access to the member’s only section of NAFF’s website, their “Weekend with an Expert” meetings, impromptu fishing get togethers, monthly club meetings with timely speakers and several formal club outings per year.

Membership in NAFF also gives members free admission to the Sowbug Roundup in March at the Baxter County Fairgrounds. Hagan says people come from all over the country for this event.
