An Izard County man has been arrested for assaulting his girlfriend and ramming her vehicle into the ditch with his work truck when she tried to escape, pushing her grandmother and trying to take her three-year-old son. Thirty-year-old Kaleb Scott Welch of Pineville is facing multiple charges for the incident.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Izard County Sheriff’s Office, the incident happened Nov. 30. A deputy was dispatched to a residence on Dolph Road for a domestic altercation. The victim, Welch’s live-in girlfriend, told the responding deputy Welch had started drinking about 11 that morning and was mad about things that had happened two years ago.

The victim says she tried to leave but Welch took her phone, held her down and hit her multiple times. At one point, he was holding her down and put his tongue in her mouth, so her only option to get him off of her was to bite his tongue. The deputy noted the victim had blood on her clothes from where she bit Welch’s tongue.

She eventually got free with her three-year-old son and got to her vehicle and locked the doors. She fled the scene but Welch followed and rammed her vehicle with his work truck causing her vehicle to go into the ditch. Welch lost control of his truck and took out a fence and mailbox along Dolph Road. The victim continued on to her grandmother’s house.

Welch eventually found the victim at her grandmother’s house after driving a tractor through several properties. When he arrived, he began pushing the victim and her grandmother in an attempt to take the three-year-old. He eventually gave up and left.

Damage to the fence was estimated at between $1,000 and $5,000.

During the incident, Welch was driving his work truck which belongs to the Brunner Hill Water Association. It sustained heavy damage.

Welch is facing two counts of aggravated assault and one count of endangering the welfare of a minor, all felonies, along with misdemeanor counts of third degree domestic battery and second degree criminal mischief. He is being held in the Izard County Detention Center without bond.
