MHHS basketball teams win Thursday games in NW Arkansas

The Mountain Home High School basketball teams were able to get a pair of wins in northwest Arkansas on Thursday. Matt Sharp has the details.

The Bomber boys began the evening by defeating Ozark Catholic 71-62 in their opener in the Bad Boy Mowers Cardinal Classic at Farmington. Mountain Home started pulling away from the Griffins nearly halfway through the opening quarter. The Bombers went up double digits in the second period and took a 14-point lead in the break. Mountain Home built a 20-point advantage in the second half, but Ozark Catholic made a comeback in the final quarter. The Griffins eventually ran out of time as the Bombers posted the nine-point victory.

Blaine Tate led Mountain Home with 19 points, Rhett Gilbert scored 18, Jackson Corp had 15, and Ryder McClain added 10 points. For Ozark Catholic, Shep Newcomb recorded 21 points, Simeon Spencer finished with 20, and Abe Sanchez chipped in 10 points.

The Bombers improve to 6-4 on the season, and the Griffins fall to 16-3.

The Mountain Home girls are one win away from the championship of the Red Dog Invitational at Springdale after beating Greene County Tech 57-38. The game was back-and-forth for much of the first half, but the Lady Bombers went on a run of 20 straight points starting with three minutes left in the second quarter and continuing halfway through the third period. The game was fairly even from there as Mountain Home went on to win by 19.

The Lady Bombers were led by Brooklyn Mitchell and Livi Fosness with 18 points each, and Laykin Moore ended up with 10. Sofia Gonzalez scored 14 points for the Lady Eagles.

Mountain Home is now 8-2 on the year. Tech drops to 7-2.
