Representatives from the Bingo and Auxiliary units of VFW Post 3246 made the holiday season brighter for students at Nelson-Wilks-Herron Elementary by donating $4,800, 15 bicycles, and additional Christmas toys on Tuesday.
Nelson-Wilks-Herron Elementary school counselor, Katie Criner, praised the VFW’s ongoing support. She says, “Our local VFW Post has been so generous to us for years. They are sensitive to the needs of our students and families, and they answer the call each year by providing gifts and funding to make Christmas special for all our students.”
The monetary donation will help stock the school’s Christmas Store, which allows parents of Nelson-Wilks-Herron students to shop for gifts at no cost. Criner says she plans to add the donated toys and bicycles to the store’s inventory. She has also used the funds in past years to purchase items for the LT Thrift Store’s Christmas program at Mountain Home High School, which supplies gifts to students across the district.
