A man is accused of hitting a female at a residence north of Midway and forcing her in a vehicle against her will. Thirty-five-year-old Richard Deffley is facing charges of second-degree false imprisonment and third-degree domestic battery.
According to the incident report from the Baxter County Sheriff’s Office, a deputy was dispatched Dec. 7 to the residence on Arkansas Highway 5 North, and upon arrival, he located a female sitting in her vehicle with a pair of black eyes. She alleged she got into a phyisical altercation with Deffley the night before.
The victim states she and Deffley got into an argument during the incident, and he allegedly started hitting and kicking her while she was laying on a bed. At another point in the altercation, Deffley reportedly hit the female with a pool cue. The deputy observed bruising on her right forearm and wrist area, her left thigh and her left shin.
The female claims the black eyes were from another previous altercation. She alleges Deffley placed her in a vehicle and drove her to the lake, believing authorities were on their way to the residence to arrest him. When they returned, Deffley reportedly hit the victim again before she was able to run to another nearby residence.
The responding deputy was joined by another deputy as they went into the residence and located Deffley laying on a bed. Deffley reportedly admitted to the argument but denied the physical allegations. He was soon arrested and transported to the Baxter County Detention Center. As the female was gathering her belongings, she showed the responding deputy a broken pool cue.
The deputy later made went to the detention center, where Deffley chose to write a statement. He reportedly admitted a small physical altercation occurred, and he showed the deputy scratches on his hand he claimed were from defending himself. He also claimed he wanted to go to the lake and denied attempting to elude authorities.
Deffley is currently free on a bond of $1,000.
