The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had mixed results as they went to Jonesboro on Tuesday for an outing with Nettleton. Matt Sharp has the details.
Listen:
The Lady Bombers began the night with a 56-51 victory over the Lady Raiders. Mountain Home started pulling away as they outscored Nettleton 18-9 in the second quarter and went into the locker room up 13. The Lady Bombers were still up double digits at the end of the third period, but the Lady Raiders made a comeback late in the final quarter. The margin was cut to three with 43 seconds left. The score remained 53-50 when Nettleton’s Jessica Cullins was fouled by Anna McCarn with four seconds remaining, but another whistle blew right after that, and fellow Lady Raider Kinslee Patterson was assessed a technical foul for shoving Whitten Coleman. Cullins hit one of two free throws, and Laykin Moore hit one of two on the technical foul. McCarn was immediately fouled on the ensuing inbound pass, and she sank both free throws to put the game out of reach.
Brooklyn Mitchell led Mountain Home with 12 points, Moore scored 11, and Livi Fosness added 10. Kaylee Franklin had 21 points for Nettleton.
The Lady Raiders fall to 8-5 on the season. The Lady Bombers improve to 10-2, and they’ll have their home opener on Friday as Heritage comes in from Rogers.
Mountain Home was not as fortunate in the boys’ contest as they lost a high-scoring game to Nettleton 85-74. The lone tie was at 2-2, but the Raiders led from then on. Nettleton had built a seven-possession advantage on a few occasions, but the Bombers made a comeback and cut the margin back to six. Mountain Home hit 13 three-pointers in the game, but they couldn’t overcome the Raiders’ advantage on the offensive glass. In addition, Nettleton shot 19-of-24 from the line, compared to just 5-of-6 for the Bombers.
Mountain Home was led by Ryder McClain with 25 points, Jackson Corp recorded 21, Rhett Gilbert finished with 13, and Blaine Tate chipped in 12 points. T.J. Whitney ended up with 27 points for the Raiders, Ja’Kobe Jamison put up 26, and Te’Jay Daley and Braylin Green each scored 10.
Nettleton is now 10-1 on the year. The Bombers fall to 7-5, and they’ll be in Harrison on Saturday to meet Fair Grove, Mo., in the North Arkansas College Boys Basketball Border War Shootout.
