Mountain Home was among Saturday’s winners in the North Arkansas College Boys Basketball Border War Shootout Saturday in Harrison. The Bombers will go into the Christmas holiday with a 63-46 victory over Fair Grove, Mo.
Mountain Home responded after their loss to Nettleton on Tuesday by limiting the Eagles’ second chance opportunities. The Bombers ended up with 28 rebounds and only nine turnovers in the game. In addition, the offense picked up for Mountain Home the further the game went. The Bombers led by over 20 before posting the 17-point victory.
Ryder McClain led Mountain Home with 23 points, Rhett Gilbert scored 12, and Jackson Corp added 11. Spensar Seiger had 13 points for Fair Grove.
The Eagles fall to 2-4 on the season. The Bombers improve to 8-5, and they’ll return to the Hangar on Thursday to meet Dumas on the opening night of the Atlas Asphalt Basketball Tournament.
Two area teams competed in the final game at the Pioneer Pavilion, and it was close throughout. Izard County came up short as they fell to Harrison 54-50. The Cougars were led by Gabe Spray with 20 points, and Cash Arnhart chipped in 15.
Valley Springs had a rough outing in the second game of the day. The Tigers suffered a 66-50 defeat at the hands of Norwood, Mo.
The opening game ended with a buzzer beater. Berryville was edged out by Blue Eye, Mo., 46-44.
