Whether it was through his career, a local school district, athletic events or civic organizations, Bill Self is being remembered for his service to the community. Self died Thursday at his residence in Bull Shoals at the age of 84.

Self later went to work for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and spent 30 years as the chief superintendent of hydro power at Bull Shoals, Norfork and Greers Ferry dams. His expertise and dedication were instrumental in the operations and success of the power plants.

Following his retirement from the Corps, Self began to work with the Bank of Yellville, which later became Arvest Bank. He worked on customer service and radio promotions in Bull Shoals and Mountain Home.

Beyond his professional career, Self was also a member of the Bull Shoals-Lakeview Rotary Club and served as president for a term. In addition, he served on the Flippin School board for 31 years and was the Voice of the Bobcats, announcing basketball game during his children’s school years.
