A Gassville man arrested for being a felon in possession of a firearm and drug paraphernalia was a no show in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday, and a warrant was issued for his arrest.
Thirty-seven-year-old Cory Weaver was stopped by a Mountain Home police officer Nov. 11 when the Chevrolet SUV he was driving crossed the center line and went partially into the oncoming lane.
When Weaver was checked through ACIC, he was shown to be a convicted felon with an active search waiver on file allowing for warrantless searches of his person and property.
A search of Weaver’s pockets yielded a live 30-30 round. Weaver told the officer he had gone hunting with his son earlier in the day but that there was nothing in the vehicle that would get him in trouble.
That did not turn out to be true. A Winchester lever action rifle was found between the center console and passenger seat along with two glass pipes commonly used to ingest methamphetamine.
Weaver has had other criminal cases opened on him in Baxter County, mainly in 2015, and has also been in trouble in Marion and Madison Counties. A case was also opened on him in Missouri.
The most serious charges against Weaver found in electronic court records were filed in Madison County in early July 2020. He was initially charged with trafficking a controlled substance.
Trafficking is a Class Y felony, the most serious classification of crime in Arkansas not punishable by death.
According to Madison County Circuit Court records, Weaver had been in possession of 200 grams of methamphetamine.
The trafficking charge was reduced to possession of methamphetamine with the purpose to deliver. He was also charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was sentenced to six years in prison and 14 years of probation to follow.
According to electronic records, Weaver is also currently listed as a parole absconder.
