A two-vehicle crash Saturday night on the south end of West Plains resulted in the deaths of two individuals and injuries to a pair of teens. A 76-year-old male driver and his 68-year-old female passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, and a 17-year-old male and female in the other vehicle were transported to area hospitals to be checked.
According to the West Plains Police Department, city officers and fire department personnel responded just after 10:30 to the report of the crash at U.S. Highway 160 and Ramseur Road. A vehicle occupied by the deceased victims was located in the ditch off the roadway with substantial damage on the driver’s side. The SUV occupied by the teens was on the highway, where it came to rest in the middle turning lane with substantial damage to its front.
The investigation indicates the SUV was traveling on Highway 160, and the other vehicle was traveling on County Road 6070 and was attempting to cross the highway onto Ramseur Road. The crash remains under investigation by the Reconstruction Team
of the West Plains Police Department. The roadways were opened to all traffic nearly three hours after the crash occurred.
The names of the deceased were withheld due to the department no longer identifying victims in fatal crashes.
