A man reportedly admitted to stealing from a Mountain Home retailer before returning the missing items last week. Thirty-four-year-old Timothy Clark was booked into the Baxter County Detention Center on Tuesday as he faces a count of theft of property.
According to the incident report, a Baxter County deputy was parked in the parking lot of the retailer on Arkansas Highway 5 South. He reportedly observed Clark walking out of the store with drinks and other various items in a shopping cart. The deputy states Clark noticed his parked vehicle, stood in one spot for nearly a minute and walked back into the store. Clark exited the retailer a few minutes later with nothing in his possession and started walking south along the highway.
The deputy entered the store and told the assistant manager he observed a male walk out with items, but he returned to the store when he saw the deputy and came back out with no items. The assistant manager advised she observed the male go into the restroom for a little while and said he did not purchase any items before he left.
The deputy exited the store, relocated Clark nearly 200 yards away and asked if he attempted to steal something from the retailer. Clark’s response was, “You caught me, but I returned the items.” Clark was taken into custody and later transported to the detention center.
The deputy returned to the store, and the assistant manager said she located the shopping cart in front of the restroom door, took a picture of the items and put them back on the shelves.
Clark has been free since Wednesday after posting a bond of $700.
