Arkansas State Parks will welcome the new year with their annual First Day Hikes on Jan. 1, offering guided and self-guided hikes to promote outdoor recreation and healthy living.

The event, a tradition since 2014, includes 46 ranger-led hikes across 36 state park locations in Arkansas. Hikes will vary in start times, distances, and terrain difficulties, making them accessible to individuals and families of all fitness levels. Participants can enjoy scenic views and explore the unique natural and cultural features of the state parks.

First Day Hikes are part of a national initiative led by the National Association of State Park Directors, with more than 1,000 hikes taking place across the country. Arkansas State Parks also encourage self-guided hikes during “New Year Week,” from Dec. 28 to Jan. 5.

Participants in Arkansas can mark their hike with a free “Hike Arkansas State Parks” sticker, available at guided hikes or by logging self-guided hikes online. Additional resources, including tips for planning hikes and submitting photos, are available on the Arkansas State Parks website.

This event provides an opportunity to connect with nature, start the year with healthy activities, and create lasting memories with family and friends. For more information and a complete list of hikes, visit arkansasstateparks.com/events.
