Children in the Twin Lakes Area and around the world will be eagerly awaiting updates on Santa Claus’ journey Tuesday night, as the North American Aerospace Defense Command (NORAD) continues its long-standing tradition of tracking his flight path.Since 1958, NORAD has monitored Santa’s movements each Christmas Eve. This year, the journey is expected to begin in the South Pacific, according to the agency. From there, Santa typically travels to New Zealand, Australia, Japan, Asia, Africa, Europe, Canada, the United States, Mexico, Central America, and South America.

NORAD estimates that Santa arrives in most countries between 9 p.m. and midnight. However, if children are awake when he visits, Santa skips their homes and returns later once they are asleep.

We expect to be hearing from NORAD throughout night, so tune in to KTLO, Classic Hits and The Boot for the latest updates. Santa’s latest path can also be followed online at noradsanta.org, and NORAD staff members will be available by phone toll-free at 1-877-HI-NORAD (1-877-446-6723). Operators will be available until midnight.
