Local fire departments recently came together to put smiles on the faces of area kids this holiday season. The Norfork Fire Department held a boot drive to raise money to buy Christmas presents for local youth.
Old boots were placed at businesses around Norfork to collect donations for gifts for families facing financial challenges. The department then partnered with the Norfork School District to identify families in need. The effort raised $1,448 in just three weeks.
Two days before the scheduled delivery date, the Norfork Fire Department learned about a family in Calico Rock facing recent hardships. The family, which included nine grandchildren who had recently moved in with their grandmother, was added to the list.
To help, the Calico Rock Fire Department provided a matching donation, ensuring there were enough funds to buy gifts for the nine children. The children were surprised with a truckload of presents delivered to the Calico Rock Fire Department.
Additional toy donations were contributed by the Salesville Fire Department, further brightening the holiday season for local families in need.
