A high-speed pursuit early Thursday morning in Little Rock ended in a shooting and crash, leaving one man dead and a woman injured, according to the Arkansas State Police (ASP).

The incident began around 4:30 a.m. when ASP troopers spotted a Dodge Ram 1500 that had previously fled from Little Rock Police officers. The suspect vehicle sped east on Baseline Road at speeds exceeding 100 mph, prompting a chase. The pursuit ended when the driver lost control and crashed at the intersection of Baseline Road and Arch Street Pike.

As troopers approached the vehicle and ordered the occupants to exit, a gunshot was heard from inside the truck. Officers found the driver, a 28-year-old man from Heber Springs, with what is believed to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound. The man was pronounced dead at the scene.

The passenger, a 44-year-old woman from Little Rock, was injured in the crash and transported to the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) for treatment. Her condition has not been released, but authorities said she remains hospitalized.

During a search of the vehicle, investigators found a 9mm handgun, an AR-15 rifle, and illegal narcotics, according to the ASP.

The Criminal Investigation Division of the Arkansas State Police is now investigating the shooting and the events leading up to the crash. No further details have been provided at this time.
