Thursday basketball results include Viola girls losing opener in Berryville

Three area teams played their openers in the CS Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament at Berryville. Viola’s girls ended up falling to Mountain View 75-31. Mountain View was also successful on the boys’ side as they defeated Berryville 70-57.

Two area girls’ teams squared off on the opening day of the Gainesville Lady Bulldog Holiday Tournament. Bakersfield topped the host team 55-37.

The Bakersfield boys also began the Winter Warrior Classic on a winning note. The Lions routed Gateway Science Charter 74-19.

Three area boys’ teams played their openers in the Cabool Holiday Tournament. Gainesville was edged out by Eminence 48-47, Dora lost to Mountain View-Liberty 76-42, and Mammoth Spring beat Summersville 45-31.

A few area schools began action in the Lendel Thomas Classic at Harrison. In the boys’ games, Salem fell to the host Goblins 71-33, Bergman defeated Sheridan 67-58, and Valley Springs topped Mena 68-48. On the girls’ side, Bergman destroyed Mena 80-21, Harrison beat Greenland 68-42, and it was Branson over Highland 54-45.

Izard County’s boys had a successful opener in Missouri as they were able to get past McCracken County 58-54 in overtime at the Poplar Bluff Showdown. Gabe Spray paced the Cougars with 33 points. Izard County improves to 7-6 on the season.

Three area girls’ teams were in Pea Ridge for the start of the Lady Blackhawk Invitational. Mammoth Spring fell to Arkadelphia 63-32, and Melbourne defeated Greenbrier 51-43.
Valley Springs was able to beat Mena 61-49. The Lady Tigers were led by Macy Willis with 20 points, Laramie Watkins had 14, and Jada Wray added 12. Valley Springs improves to 17-2 on the season.

The Melbourne boys took their opener in the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Invitational at Highland. The Bearkatz topped Marianna 58-49.
