Eighty-two-year-old Dr. Joe Tullis has reached a milestone few achieve – 50 years with Baxter Health’s radiology department. Known for his inquisitive nature and dedication, Tullis has no plans to retire, citing his passion for learning and his continued good health.
Tullis’ journey into medicine was shaped by unexpected opportunities, including a Navy residency in radiology that steered him away from a planned surgical career. In 1974, he joined Baxter Regional Hospital, where he worked to build a state-of-the-art radiology department. By the 1990s, his efforts helped position the hospital as a leader in imaging technology among small-town healthcare facilities.
Beyond the hospital, Tullis has served as an auxiliary deputy and consultant for the county jail. He emphasizes hard work and patient care over financial gain, a principle he has upheld throughout his career.
As he begins his second half-century in medicine, Tullis remains committed to his profession and community, setting a remarkable example of dedication and service.
