The second day of the Atlas Asphalt Basketball Tournament came to an end Friday in Mountain Home with the host school advancing to both championship games.
The Bomber boys wrapped up the night with a 60-49 victory over Greene County Tech. For much of the first half, Mountain Home struggled to get their shots to fall. The Golden Eagles built a lead as big as nine points, but the Bombers did make a comeback as Rhett Gilbert hit a pair of threes just before halftime, and they went into the locker room down by three. Tech had a six-point advantage at the end of the third period, but in the final quarter, Mountain Home outscored the Golden Eagles 25-8 largely on the shooting of Gilbert and the clutch free throws by Blaine Tate.
Gilbert led the Bombers with 27 points, Tate scored 15, and Jackson Corp added 10. Noah Oswalt, Kason Scott and Landon Morton each had 12 points for Tech.
The Golden Eagles fall to 7-6 on the season. Mountain Home improves to 10-5, and their last opponent in the tournament will be Farmington. Flippin fell to the Cardinals 75-47 in the other semifinal.
On the consolation side of the bracket, Cotter lost to Dumas 66-36, and Rector squeaked by Paragould 49-46.
The Lady Bombers won the last girls’ game of the night over Cabot by a final of 70-50. Mountain Home struggled in the opening quarter, but that didn’t last into the next period. The Lady Bombers built an 11-point lead at the end of the first half. The Lady Panthers made a couple of runs in the second half, but Mountain Home held them off each time before going on to win by 20.
The Lady Bombers were led by Laykin Moore with 16 points, Livi Fosness recorded 14, Jayla Yonkers finished with 13, Anna McCarn ended up with 12, and Brooklyn Mitchell chipped in 10 points. Kaitlyn Graves scored 18 points for Cabot, and Lily Boles had 10.
The Lady Panthers drop to 7-9 on year. Mountain Home is now 13-2, and they’ll be paired with North Little Rock on the final day of the tournament. The Lady Charging Wildcats won their semifinal game over Greers Ferry West Side 68-45.
In the consolation games, Flippin got past Rector 52-48 in overtime, and Dumas beat up on Paragould 56-18.
