The Yellville-Summit High School girls’ basketball team played its semifinal game in the Bank OZK Classic Saturday at Ozark. The Lady Panthers ended up losing to Shiloh Christian 38-33. Yellville-Summit will compete for third place on Monday.
Bakersfield’s boys ended up as the runners-up of the Winter Warrior Classic in Ste. Genevieve. The Lions were edged out by Bunker 43-41.
The Gainesville girls suffered a loss as they continued to host the Gainesville Lady Bulldog Holiday Tournament. The Lady Bulldogs fell to Mansfield 34-26.
Two area boys’ teams continued action in the Cabool Holiday Tournament.
Gainesville came away with a 53-44 win over Winona. The Bulldogs will return to Cabool on Monday for a matchup with Plato.
Mammoth Spring’s run in the tournament came to an end. The Bears suffered a 50-46 defeat to Salem, Mo.
Two area girls’ teams played their openers in the NEA Tournament at Arkansas State University in Jonesboro. Salem was one and done as they fell to Jonesboro Westside 47-38. Izard County was able to defeat Buffalo Island Central 60-44.
The Lendel Thomas Classic ended its three-day run at Harrison. On the boys’ side, Salem finished eighth with a 60-28 loss to Earle, Bergman beat Valley Springs 83-54 for third place, and Harrison ended up second after falling 66-61 to Carthage, Mo. Bergman’s girls won the championship after beating Branson 50-46, and Harrison finished fourth with a 50-44 loss to Earle.
The Izard County boys ended up fourth in the Poplar Bluff Showdown. The Cougars suffered a 65-32 defeat at the hands of Staley.
Dora’s girls picked up a win in their second game at the 12 Courts of Christmas in Kansas City. The Lady Falcons defeated Plattsburg 42-24.
Three area girls’ teams wrapped up action in the Lady Blackhawk Invitational at Pea Ridge.
Mammoth Spring finished in seventh place in the tournament. The Lady Bears topped Providence Academy 48-35.
Melbourne ended up as the runners-up of the tournament. The Lady Bearkatz fell to Arkadelphia by a final of 59-40.
Valley Springs finished third with a 67-45 win over Greenbrier. Macy Willis was the Lady Tigers’ top scorer with 26 points, and Tayla Trammell and Laramie Watkins each added 12. Valley Springs improves to 18-3 on the season.
The Melbourne boys ended up second in the Maverick Division of the Bad Boy Mowers Ronnie Brogdon Invitational at Highland. The game needed double overtime, but the Bearkatz lost to Osceola 91-82.
Both of Mountain View’s teams lost the championship games of the CS Bank Holiday Hoops Tournament at Berryville. The Yellowjackets fell in the boys’ game to Bauxite 59-43, and Mountain View also lost the girls’ contest to De Queen 86-70.
A few area teams competed on the second day of the North Arkansas College High School Pioneer Classic at Harrison.
Rural Special’s boys had a rough outing in the last game of the day. The Rebels fell to Rogers 67-47.
The Lead Hill boys came up just short as they lost to Concord 58-54. Dawson Lively led Lead Hill with 17 points, and Brett Arnold chipped in 15.
Lead Hill did not fare any better on the girls’ side. The Lady Tigers fell to Concord 52-30.
Ozark Mountain suffered a sweep at the hands of Clinton. The Lady Bears lost to the Lady Yellowjackets 61-52. Clinton also took the boys’ game 57-40.
