When the Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team wrapped up the non-conference portion of its regular season on Saturday, one of its seniors reached a milestone. Laykin Moore reached 1,000 points for her career near the end of the Lady Bombers’ 65-55 victory over North Little Rock for the championship of the Atlas Asphalt Basketball Tournament.

Moore hit her mark when head coach Dell Leonard sent her to the free throw line after North Little Rock head coach Daryl Fimple was assessed a technical foul inside the final minute of the game. She says it couldn’t have happened in any better scenario.

Moore has come a long way in her development as an athlete over the last few years. She says Mountain Home High School alums Emma Martin and Buck Gilbert were crucial in helping her learn how to work on her own.

Moore signed a national letter of intent in November to join the women’s basketball program at Harding University in Searcy next year. Leonard says he hopes local youth will look to her and her teammates as an example of the work they’ve put in.

The Lady Bombers will be starting conference action next week with a record of 14-2 when Harrison comes to the Hangar. Moore says she is looking forward to the challenges in front of her team from the 5A-West.
