An arrest has been made after a car was stolen from a Gassville business nine months ago. Facing six charges in connection with the crime, including three felonies, is 37-year-old Michael Curtis Clements.

According to the probable cause affidavit from the Gassville Police Department, Clements asked an employee of a store for a ride March 10, but the employee had to start their shift and didn’t have time. A short time later, a car two doors down was idling to warm up. Clements allegedly stole the car which also had a credit card in it that Clements used.

Three days later, Gassville police received a call from a resident of Flippin saying a car matching the description of the stolen car was sitting in their driveway. Law enforcement responded and found Clements in possession of the stolen vehicle.

According to the affidavit, Clements pulled the fake seizure routine and was taken to Baxter Health for treatment, but he walked away from the hospital.

It’s also alleged Clements tried to extort money from the victim for return of the vehicle.

Clements is facing two felony charges of theft of property and one count of breaking or entering along with misdemeanor charges of theft of property, first degree criminal mischief and fraudulent use of a credit card. He is being held in the Baxter County Detention Center on bonds totaling $10,000.

Clements has a criminal history dating back to 2002 which includes charges of battery, theft of property, forgery, criminal trespass, criminal mischief, leaving the scene of an accident involving injury, carless and prohibited driving, DWI – drugs, refusal to submit to a chemical test, careless and prohibited driving and contempt and court.
