NWS models Thursday morning show decreased chances for snow in Northern Arkansas

Twin Lakes residents are in for a wet and chilly weekend, but significant snowfall isn’’t expected, according to National Weather Service Meteorologist Colby Pope. While there’s a chance for a rain-snow mix late Sunday, areas farther north into Missouri are more likely to see winter precipitation.

“”We’ have got some changes coming up this weekend,”” Pope said. “”It’’s looking like we’re going to start off with a rain event on Saturday night, transitioning into Sunday morning.””

As temperatures drop Sunday evening, the rain could mix with snow across Northern Arkansas, but Pope stressed that it’s unlikely to result in significant accumulations. “We’re still nailing down specifics,”” Pope explained. “”The models are starting to show some cohesion, but things could shift. Right now, we’re not looking at a significant winter weather event for most of Northern Arkansas.””

In contrast, Southern Missouri is shaping up to experience more pronounced wintry conditions. ““In Missouri, we’re looking at rain transitioning to freezing rain and eventually to snow. That’s where the better chances for accumulation are,”” Pope noted.

Looking ahead to next week, the meteorologist warned of a cold snap that could bring the coldest temperatures of the season. “”The bigger story is going to be next week,” he said. “Highs will only reach the freezing mark, and we’ll see lows dipping into the teens. It’s going to be brutally cold.””
