A Mountain Home man is accused of taking a truck from a residence in the Norfork area. Forty-four-year-old Buck Bagwell was originally booked in the Baxter County Detention Center on a felony count of theft of property, which has since been reduced, and a misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia.
According to the incident report, Baxter County 911 dispatch advised a deputy on New Year’s Night of the stolen truck on Arkansas Highway 5 South. The deputy responded and made contact with a male, who handed a phone to the deputy, to speak with the truck’s owner. The truck was reportedly supposed to stay with the male on site while the owner was out of town, but he had just found the truck missing prior to his call to the sheriff’s office.
As the phone conversation continued, the owner’s wife stated the truck could be seen on camera at their residence on East 16th Street in Mountain Home, and a male was observed exiting the vehicle. The deputy asked dispatch to notify the Mountain Home Police Department, and an officer later stopped the truck at the corner of Ramble Lane and Laurel Road.
Another deputy arrived to assist the officer and take the suspect, identified as Bagwell, into custody. During the process, a glass pipe and a fingernail file case containing a piece of jagged wire were found in plain view in the seat of the truck. The pipe and the wire both reportedly had marijuana residue.
The Mountain Home officer transported Bagwell to the detention center. A couple confirmed to be known by the owner soon came to the intersection to retrieve the truck.
Bagwell remains incarcerated, but online jail records show his theft charge was changed to unauthorized use of a vehicle. His bond was also reduced from $5,000 to $945.
