Police in Little Rock have provided further details about a New Year’s Day incident involving stabbings and an officer-involved shooting, revealing that the suspect was the son of one of the victims.
The Little Rock Police Department stated that officers responded to a call about an assault in the 2100 block of State Street at approximately 8:25 p.m. on January 1. Upon arrival, officers discovered a car had crashed into a nearby home.
Inside the home, they found 64-year-old Mary Ann Hansen dead from a stabbing. As officers worked to secure the area and evacuate nearby residents due to a gas leak caused by the crash, detectives found another woman who had been stabbed multiple times. She was transported to a local hospital and is currently in serious but stable condition.
Investigators later located a man, covered in blood, walking on South Broadway Street. He matched the description of the suspect, and was identified as 43-year-old Sidney Glasper, the son of the woman who survived one of the stabbings.
When officers approached Glasper, they instructed him to drop a weapon, but he refused to comply and continued to advance toward them. At that point, officers opened fire, striking and killing Glasper. Despite attempts to administer life-saving measures, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
The officers involved, Officer Jesse Hurtado and Officer Zachary Nelson, have been placed on administrative leave while an internal investigation into the shooting is conducted.
