As Twin Lakes residents prepare for wintry conditions to impact the area on Thursday, the National Weather Service (NWS) has officially added North Central Arkansas to the list of areas under a winter storm warning. North Central Arkansas will be under a winter storm warning from noon on Thursday until Friday evening.

NWS meteorologist Colby Pope says that light snow will start falling Thursday evening, but from midnight to the early morning hours on Friday we will begin to experience stronger accumulations. “As we go through the early morning hours on Friday, we’ll see those snowfall totals really start to ramp up, that rate start to ramp up and continue throughout the day on Friday,” Pope said. He added that current models predict snowfall to begin tapering off Friday evening as we get closer to 5PM.

Pope added that for much of the Twin Lakes area we can expect to see 4-6 inches of snow come down with some isolated areas receiving as much as 7 inches of snowfall. As for larger accumulations, Pope says, “Right now the axis across the state that looks like it’s going to have the highest amounts will be in Central Arkansas that could see a range of 8-10 inches of snowfall.”

As for what to expect after the system moves east, Pope says we can expect sunny days into next week with highs in the upper 30’s and lower 40’s. “We do see that sunshine starting to help melt the snowfall,” Pope concluded.
