
The Mountain Home High School basketball teams had mixed results in their first conference road tests of the season Tuesday at Siloam Springs. Matt Sharp has the details.

The Lady Bombers began the night with a 59-35 victory over the Lady Panthers. Mountain Home, currently ranked second in Class 5A and fifth overall by the Arkansas Sports Media, dominated the first half as their defense forced Siloam Springs into several turnovers. The Lady Bombers were up 31 at the break. The Lady Panthers’ scoring picked up in the second half, but Mountain Home was able to invoke the mercy rule the moment the fourth quarter started and went on to win by 24.
Brooklyn Mitchell led the Lady Bombers with 15 points, Livi Fosness scored 13, and Jayla Yonkers added 10. Cenzi Johnson had 10 points for Siloam Springs.
Mountain Home improves to 16-2 on the season and 2-0 in the 5A-West. The Lady Panthers fall to 7-11 and 0-2.
The Bombers did not fare as well in the boys’ game as they fell to Siloam Springs 71-57. The opening quarter ended up with three lead changes and two ties. The Panthers started pulling away in the second period as they forced Mountain Home into 12 first half turnovers. Siloam Springs built a double digit advantage in the second half. The Bombers made a comeback and cut the margin to four, but they would get no closer as the Panthers pulled away for the 14-point victory.
Mountain Home was led by Blaine Tate with 17 points, and Jackson Corp and Rhett Gilbert each chipped in 14. Stewart Schwaninger recorded 19 points for Siloam Springs, Evan Allen provided 17, AJ Moore finished with 13, and Darien Caldwell ended up with 12 points.
The Bombers drop to 10-8 overall and 0-2 in the league. The Panthers are now 10-7 and 1-1.
Mountain Home will return to the Hangar on Friday for a matchup with Van Buren.
In other 5A-West boys’ action, Harrison breezed past Farmington 76-55, Russellville beat Van Buren 54-31, and Greenwood topped Alma 45-32. In the girls’ games, Harrison lost to Farmington 63-28, Van Buren defeated Russellville 53-38, and Greenwood beat Alma 52-44.
