High school juniors in five Missouri counties have the opportunity to win a scholarship and an expense-paid trip to Washington, D.C., this June.

White River Valley Electric Cooperative (WRVEC) has opened applications for its Youth Tour, an annual essay competition that selects three students to represent WRVEC on the trip.

Eligible applicants include juniors from participating schools in WRVEC’s five-county service area including Ozark, Douglas, Stone, Christian, and Taney counties in Missouri. Home-schooled students may also apply if they are 16 or 17 years old and have achieved the scholastic equivalent of 11th grade.

To apply, students must complete a short application and submit an essay or video answering the question, “How will the Cooperative power my future?” Finalists will be selected by a panel of judges and invited to attend a banquet, where they will take a short quiz about electric cooperatives and present their essays.

The trip will take place June 15 through 21 and contest winners will also receive a $1,500 scholarship.
