A Boone County man and woman have been arrested after they allegedly used a camper and a shed without permission. Thirty-year-old Levi Cole and 36-year-old Kaelie Campbell are facing charges of burglary and possession for the incident.
According to the probable cause affidavit, deputies with the Boone County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence after a report of a possible break-in. The property owner told deputies his neighbor had seen a car on his property the night before. He said rolls of insulation were stored in his shed and confirmed both the shed and camper on the property were locked and not in use.
A neighbor reported seeing someone carrying two large rolls of insulation and leaving in a red Jeep. Deputies arrived to find the lock on the shed cut and the camper door pried open. Inside the camper, they discovered three glass smoking devices, a lit kerosene lamp, clothing for a man and woman, blankets, a television, and mirrors. The property owner said the camper should have been empty.
Later that day, deputies were notified the red Jeep had returned to the property. Upon arrival, they found Cole exiting the shed and approaching the camper. He told deputies his girlfriend, Campbell, was inside. Deputies knocked on the camper door, and Campbell exited. Both suspects were arrested and placed in a patrol vehicle.
During a pat-down, deputies reportedly found a baggie containing a white, crystal-like substance consistent with methamphetamine in Coles pocket.
The pair were transported to the Boone County Detention Center. During questioning, Campbell claimed a man had told her the camper was for sale and that she had communicated with someone on Facebook who gave her permission to stay there. Deputies contacted the man, who denied the claims and said he had not spoken to Campbell in a long time.
Both were arrested and booked into the Boone County Detention Center. Cole is facing a felony count of residential burglary, a felony count of possession of a controlled substance and a felony count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Campbell is facing a felony count of residential burglary and a felony count of possession of drug paraphernalia. Both are currently being held on a $25,000 bond.
