The Mountain Home High School girls’ basketball team hit the road on Monday to make up a game against the Russellville Cyclones. During the 5A-West conference matchup, Brooklynn Mitchell became the newest member of the 1,000 point club. The Lady Bombers’ improved their record to 19-3 (5-1) after the 72-54 victory over the Lady Cyclones.
Mitchell hit the 1,000 point mark after grabbing a loose ball near half court, then dribbling it down and hitting a fast-break layup. Right after hitting the layup, Lady Bombers’ head coach Dell Leonard called an immediate timeout. Mitchell said she knew exactly how many points she needed going into the game to hit the milestone.

Mitchell is not the only player on the girls’ team to become part of the 1,000 point club this year. She has joined teammate Laykin Moore, who surpassed 1,000 point on Dec. 28 of the Atlas Asphalt Tournament. Mitchell talks about how cool it is to share such a special achievement with her teammate.

This is Mitchell’s first year being a Lady Bomber. The junior moved here over the summer from rival school, Harrison. She says the supportive staff and teammates has made her a better player, and that it is a different mindset compared to her old school.
