A Lakeview woman who has been arrested for hitting her husband in the mouth with a piece of wood and stabbing him in the stomach appeared in Baxter County Circuit Court Monday (January 27).
Forty-two-year-old Brandy Lee Woods-Shepherd-Willis pled guilty to first degree battery and was sentenced to six years in prison.
Prosecutors said the victim wanted his wife sentenced to more time on probation and not sent to prison but they were not going in that direction because she had been put on probation a number of times and but kept committing crimes.
Her latest arrest came February 19 just after 3:30 a.m. at her residence along State Highway 178 West.
When deputies arrived on the scene, they located the victim, Michael Willis. He said his wife had stabbed him in the stomach with a knife.
The victim said Brandy Willis first went into the kitchen and “raked all of the items on the table into the floor.”
She was then reported to have gone to a knife block and removed two knives. The victim said she then approached him and stabbed him with one of the knives.
Investigators saw blood on the floor of the residence.
The victim told deputies his wife had been taking drugs during the past 36 hours.
When law enforcement officers first attempted to make entry into the residence, they reported Brandy Willis refused to open the door. Entry was eventually gained and she was taken into custody.
Restitution in the stabbing case is to be determined. It has been difficult to arrive at a figure because the husband is not providing medical bills, according to prosecutors.
In a previous case, Brandy Willis was arrested and charged with bashing her husband in the mouth with a board.
A Lakeview police officer said the victim was bleeding heavily from the mouth. His lip was cut, several teeth had been knocked out and his wife had pulled some of his hair out.
The Lakeview officer attempted to arrest Brandy Willis with help from a Bull Shoals policeman. The suspect was in no mood to be taken into custody.
She is reported to have kicked the Lakeview officer several times and hit the policeman from Bull Shoals with her fist multiple times.
A Taser was unsuccessfully deployed to try and subdue Willis. She is reported to have run into the living room and grabbed her husband.
At some point, she armed herself with a “Sawzall” blade and cut the Lakeview policeman on the arm. The officer knocked the sharp object out of her hand.
She was eventually brought under control.
The victim and his wife were both taken to the emergency room at Baxter Health for treatment. When she was released, Brandy Willis was taken to jail.
She was charged with two counts of battery on a law enforcement officer, domestic battery and resisting arrest.
In the earlier case where Brandy Willis used a piece of wood to attack her husband, she was given 10 years probation.
