The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers is conducting prescribed burns on public lands surrounding the Twin Lakes. Locations scheduled for potential burning include Long Bottom and Spring Creek on Bull Shoals Lake and Chapin Point and Indian Head on Norfork Lake.
Prescribed burns will be conducted through March 15 when weather conditions are favorable and will include timber stands and glade-restoration areas. Anyone with hunting stands at any of the locations scheduled for burning should remove them immediately.
According to the Corps, prescribed burns improve timber health and wildlife habitat, and they are one of the most effective tools in preventing wildfires. The burns will remove leaf and limb litter and excessive amounts of brush and encourage the growth of vegetation, which can improve erosion control.
