Arkansas State Police (ASP) seized over a ton of illegal marijuana during a traffic stop on Interstate 40 in Crawford County on Monday. According to the ASP, troopers stopped a tractor-trailer for a traffic violation at mile marker 2 on eastbound I-40. Upon searching the trailer, they discovered seven pallets containing 107 boxes of illegal marijuana, weighing a total of 2,872 pounds.
The driver of the tractor-trailer, Zhiping Mu, 31, from Kent, Washington, was arrested and taken to the Crawford County Detention Center. Mu now faces charges of trafficking a controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia.
“This seizure highlights Arkansas State Police’s commitment to fighting drug trafficking on our highways,” said Arkansas State Police Director Col. Mike Hagar in a news release. “I am immensely proud of our Troopers’ dedication to safeguarding Arkansans by stopping the transportation of narcotics through our state and into our communities.”
