Following the resignation of its superintendent Chip Layne, the Norfork School District is to buy out the remainder of his contract Friday.

According to the separation agreement, Layne had two full contract years remaining. Both Layne and the Norfork Public Schools Board of Education mutually agreed he would leave his position but would be employed as a consultant for the district. He will still receive his full pay and benefits under his contract through June 20, 2025. Layne is set to receive a lump-sum payment of $150,000 on Feb. 7. The payment is not subject to a matching contribution for benefits to the Arkansas Teacher Retirement System.

One stipulation in the agreement states that if Layne begins employment at another Arkansas school before June 2025, the district will cease the remaining payments.

By signing the agreement, neither Layne nor Norfork Public Schools can enter into further litigation on the matter.

Layne’s salary was $107,000 per year. An interim superintendent has yet to be named.

KTLO, Classic Hits, and The Boot News reached out to Norfork Public Schools’ attorney, Cody Kees, for comment but have not heard back.
