It was a busy session for the Mountain Home City Council Thursday night with ten items passed in a fairly quick session that lasted 33 minutes.

The council approved the nominations of two people to the Advertising and Promotion Commission. Noah Strout represents the hotel industry and Amy McKay represents the short term rental industry.

The council approved a resolution to update the city’s fire prevention code that will require anyone that installs fire sprinkler systems, commercial kitchen hood suppression systems, fire alarm systems and any life safety or fire suppression systems that require a licensed contractor by the state, to get a permit from the city fire marshal.

Fire Marshal Shawn Lofton told the council it’s a way to make sure anyone doing this type of work in the city is licensed and the fire marshal can inspect the equipment to make sure it is installed properly.

The council agreed to waive competitive bidding on the purchase of two new vehicles for the fire department. The vehicles include 2025 Dodge Ram pickup and a 2025 Dodge Durango from Ultimate Auto Group at a total cost of $83,561.

Also approved was the disposal and sale of an excavator used by the water and sewer department. The excavator broke down and cannot be repaired. It is being sold for $5,500.

The council approved an ordinance that increased the amount the mayor and department heads can spend on equipment or materials without having to come to the council for approval to $42,500. The prior amount was $20,000. City treasurer Alma Clark told the council the state recently raised their amount from $35,000 to $42,921.

The council also approved a similar ordinance, but pertaining to the sale of supplies, materials or equipment. The limit was raised to $10,000 Thursday night by the council, meaning anything less than that amount does not need council approval before being sold.

The council approved a couple of routine ordinances to make adjustments to the 2025 budget.

They also approved committee assignments that were tabled during their only meeting in January.
