An Ozark County woman charged with murder after her boyfriend was thrown from a moving vehicle and killed following a domestic incident has been sentenced to 14 years in prison.
On Wednesday, 50-year-old Lori Shannon Collins entered an Alford plea, which allows a defendant to plead guilty while maintaining their innocence. According to court documents, Collins was initially charged with second-degree murder, leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, and first-degree tampering with a motor vehicle.
As part of her plea agreement, the murder charge was dismissed. She was sentenced to seven years for tampering with a motor vehicle and seven years for leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death, with the sentences to be served consecutively.
The victim, 55-year-old Mark Ault of Gainesville, was killed in the incident. Collins was charged in June 2024.
