MH NJROTC shines in competition during recent Oklahoma trip

The Mountain Home NJROTC recently had the opportunity to demonstrate their discipline and competitive spirit during a recent trip to Western Heights, Okla.

The team visited the University of Oklahoma to tour the university’s Navy ROTC and Marine Corps ROTC units. During the tour, midshipmen, including MIDN Justin Rula of Mountain Home, shared insights on various opportunities and scholarships available at the university.

The team competed in the Western Heights Drill Meet, showcasing their skills in multiple events. Competition categories and their commanders included:

Unarmed Regulation: Cadet Cmdr. Ivy Hartman

Unarmed Exhibition: Cadet Lt. Chyanna Dusin

Armed Exhibition: Cadet Cmdr. Ethan Darracq

Armed Regulation: Cadet Master Chief Petty Officer Lukas Pool

Drone: Cadet Chief Petty Officer Kalem Warford

Academics: Cadet Lt. j.g. Grace Hale

Color Guard: Cadet Senior Chief Petty Officer Aaron Hale

Mountain Home NJROTC earned first place in Armed Exhibition, third in Academics and third overall.

The team’s drone unit also had an impressive showing the Friday before the drill meet, securing second place overall. They placed second in the obstacle course and lap race and first in the slalom event. Cadet Warford earned individual awards, finishing first in slalom, second in the lap race and third in the obstacle course.

The Bomber Battalion Drill Teams will next compete in the Arkansas State Championships, hosted by Fort Smith Northside at Fort Chaffee Air National Guard Base.
