After a thorough budget review, the Board of the Caulfield Community Building has voted to close the facility until sufficient funding becomes available to cover operational expenses.
The building requires about $5,000 annually for insurance, electricity, and propane. Following renovations in 2023, the board kept rental fees low to accommodate the community. However, rising costs due to inflation have made it difficult to sustain the facility.
Despite strong community support on social media and board engagement, fundraising efforts this year have brought in only $150. The board has opted not to host fundraising events to avoid competing with benefits for individuals facing health crises. Instead, they are directly appealing to the community for donations.
Board President Randy Harper says the building has been the heart of Caulfield for more than 60 years, hosting celebrations, family gatherings, and community events. He calls the closure heartbreaking but remains hopeful that community generosity will help reopen the doors for future generations.
Community members who wish to contribute and help keep the facility operational can drop off donations at any West Plains Bank branch and request to deposit into the Caulfiled Community Association account, send a check to P.O. Box 4, Caulfield, MO 65626 or donate via Paypal to @Caulfieldcommunity.
