A Fulton County man has been sentenced for a murder that occurred over twenty years ago. Dennis Kingston confessed in 2023 to the killing of David Stone, who was fatally shot through a window of a home in Salem, Arkansas, on August 25, 2004.
On the night of the shooting, the Fulton County Sheriff’s Department responded to a call regarding a shooting at a residence on Whippoorwill Road in Salem. Upon arrival, deputies discovered that David “Stony” Stone had been killed by a gunshot fired through a window of a home owned by Leon King. The investigation was initially handled by the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office in collaboration with the Arkansas State Police.
In May 2023, Detective Dale Weaver of the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office resumed the investigation into Stone’s death. Detective Weaver interviewed several individuals of interest and reviewed evidence collected over the years. Additionally, he located further evidence and submitted it to the Arkansas State Crime Lab for analysis.
On February 23, 2024, Detective Weaver conducted a follow-up interview with Dennis Kingston, who had previously been questioned a week earlier. Based on his investigation, Weaver believed Kingston to be the perpetrator of the crime. Following the interview, Kingston confessed to shooting David Stone in 2004 and was arrested for the murder.
After nearly a year in the courts, on Monday Kingston took the plea agreement and was sentenced to 30 years in prison.
