
There was plenty of high school basketball on Monday as several area teams were in district tournament play.
The 1A-2 District Tournament continued at Rural Special High School in Fox.
Norfork’s girls were able to secure another regional tournament bid as they defeated Calico Rock 65-32. The Lady Panthers are currently scheduled to face Greers Ferry West Side in the semifinals on Thursday.
Viola took the other girls’ game as they eliminated Concord 58-39. Taylor Richardson led the Lady Longhorns with 25 points and 11 rebounds, Jaden Fry added 13 points, and Marissa Hutson grabbed 11 rebounds. Viola improves to 20-15 on the season, and they’ll take on Rural Special in the other semifinal.
Norfork did not fare as well on the boys’ side of the bracket. The Panthers’ season came to an end with a 59-27 loss to Timbo. The Tigers will play Calico Rock in Thursday’s semifinals.
Melbourne hosted the second night of the 3A-2 District Tournament.
Flippin’s boys will be guaranteed a regional berth after beating Valley Springs 55-34. The Bobcats will be paired with Melbourne in the semifinals on Friday.
Mountain View was victorious in the other boys’ contest as they got past Cave City 62-57. The Yellowjackets’ next opponent will be Bergman.
Flippin had a different result on the girls’ bracket as their season ended with a 64-41 loss to Melbourne. The host Lady Bearkatz will face Bergman in Friday’s semifinals.
The other girls’ game went down to the wire with two teams playing for a regional bid, but Salem came out on top as they squeaked by Valley Springs 52-51. The Lady Greyhounds will take on Mountain View on Friday.
Four area teams competed on the second night of the 2A-2 District Tournament at Tuckerman.
Mammoth Spring’s girls ended up being one and done as they fell to Marshall 54-38. The Lady Bobcats now have a spot in next week’s regional tournament, and they’ll play Izard County in the semifinals on Thursday.
Mammoth Spring was also eliminated from the boys’ bracket. The Bears suffered a 47-32 defeat at the hands of Tuckerman.
Marshall ended up losing the other boys’ game to Sloan-Hendrix 65-45. Izard County will be matched up with the Greyhounds in the semifinals on Thursday.
Three area teams were in action in the 1A-1 District Tournament at Kingston.
Lead Hill’s girls will be guaranteed a spot in next week’s regional tournament. The Lady Tigers dominated Mount Judea 54-20.
Omaha also put the mercy rule in effect in the other girls’ game. The Lady Eagles beat up on Founders Classical Academy 79-17.
Omaha was not as fortunate on the boys’ side. The Eagles ended up losing to Kingston by a final of 61-55.
