The Mountain Home High School boys’ track team was able to add another state championship to its trophy case on Saturday. The Bombers wrapped up the Arkansas Indoor High School Championships by winning the Class 5A title by a half point. Mountain Home finished fourth on the girls’ side at the Randal Tyson Track Center on the campus of the University of Arkansas in Fayetteville.
The Bomber boys edged out Russellville in the team standings. Individually for Mountain Home, Connor King topped Class 5A in the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs, Eli Jones won the classification’s shot put, Jackson Free topped the 3200-meter run and finished second in the 1600-meter run, Garrett Barr was second in the 3200-meter run, and Taylon Peterson ended up third in the triple jump. The team of King, Trenton Smith, Free and Barr won Class 5A’s 4×800-meter relay; and Connor Schulz, Ben Souder, Talan Palmer and Zach Daugherty took third place in the 4×400-meter relay.
The Lady Bombers finished 43 points back of the Class 5A champs from Lake Hamilton. Mountain Home’s top performance was from Pixie Bolick, Camilla Johnson, Jada Johnson and Bailey Ritenburg as they were second in the 4×400-meter relay. Erin Smith, Jamie Chandler, Lucy Koehn and Cisily Goettler ended up third in the 4×800-meter relay. In addition, Camilla Johnson took third place in the 800-meter run, and Czanstkowski finished third in the long jump.
Omaha’s girls were sixth in Classes 2A/1A with the title going to Magazine. Riley Hopson led the Lady Eagles as she won the 800-meter and 1600-meter runs and was second in the long jump and the triple jump.
Omaha ended up ninth on the boys’ side as Ozark Catholic captured the Classes 2A/1A state championship. Tyler Liggett was the Eagles’ top performer after he ended up second in the triple jump.
