White River Marathon seeking local charities in order to give back locally

Runners from far and wide gather every year in Cotter for the annual White River Marathon, and this year, the marathon is looking to give back locally.

The White River Marathon is accepting applications from local nonprofits in need of funding. Race director Paul Gigliotti says any charity can apply and multiple may be selected.

The marathon previously has benefited international charities. Gigliotti says moving forward they are shifting their focus to local needs.

Applications are accepted through Apr. 15.

The race is scheduled for Nov. 22 and offers a full marathon, a half-marathon and a 5k. The course is also a Boston Marathon Qualifier.

Gigliotti says they had 738 runners for last year’s event, coming from many different states and even some international from places like Canada and Puerto Rico. He gives an example of a runner’s initial reaction to running in the Ozarks.
