The Fort Smith Northside girls’ basketball team began the final day of the state championship week with their ninth title in the largest classification since 1999. The Lady Bears claimed the Class 6A crown after defeating Fayetteville 56-48.
Erianna Gooden won the MVP award as she scored 12 points for Northside. Camryn Schmidt led the Lady Bears with 17 points, and Hazley Grotjohn added 14. Payton Caudle had 17 points for the Lady Bulldogs, and Whitney Brown recorded 14.
Northside ends the season at 27-5. Fayetteville winds up at 19-12.
