The Arkansas State University System Board of Trustees came to the Twin Lakes Area for its first quarterly meeting of 2025. The board met Friday in the Trout Room of the Vada Sheid Community Development Center on the ASU-Mountain Home campus as they welcomed new member Carole Farmer of Fayetteville, who was appointed by Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders.
Prior to the board’s votes, they heard a presentation from ASU-Mountain Home Chancellor Dr. Bentley Wallace as he acknowledged some of the successes on the local campus. Dr. Wallace says one of the things he was proud of this year was the increase in enrollment.

One of the programs that’s seen the biggest increase in participation is nursing. Dr. Wallace says ASU-Mountain Home has two separate pathways to become a registered nurse.

ASU System President Dr. Brendan Kelly was among those at Friday’s session. Dr. Kelly says he’s encouraged by the local campus’ increase in enrollment, especially in the nursing program.

Dr. Kelly was able to acknowledge other accomplishments from the ASU System, particularly the recent success from the A-State women’s basketball program. Red Wolves’ head coach Destinee Rogers was on live video from Jonesboro with the championship trophy the team captured at the end of the Sun Belt Conference Tournament Monday in Pensacola, Fla, putting them in the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history. Dr. Kelly says the pride in what the A-State women accomplished should be felt not just by the university, but the entire state of Arkansas.

Everything that required action by the board was passed. They unanimously agreed to the sale of Henderson State University’s Hickory House in Arkadelphia for the appraised value of $240,000. The board also approved of ASU-Beebe’s new strategic plan titled “Strengthen. Expand. Elevate. (S.E.E.) the Vanguard Vision: 2025-2030,” the ASU System Office’s plan to offer an optional voluntary retirement program in fiscal 2025, revisions to the ASU System Conflict of Interest or Conflict of Commitment Policy and the Travel Expense Reimbursement Policy and an A-State application for federal grant funding from the Transportation Alternatives Program for support of the Campus Loop Trail in Jonesboro.
The board also voted to approved of A-State granting a permanent easement and a temporary easement located north of East Matthews Avenue and west of Red Wolf Boulevard to City Water and Light (CWL) of Jonesboro for $11,528 for electric lines, a sewer line and a water line. Trustee Gary Harpole did abstain from the vote due to his connections to CWL.
