The National Weather Service (NWS) has confirmed EF4 and EF3 tornados struck north central Arkansas during Friday night’s severe thunderstorms. Survey teams from the North Little Rock office visited Izard and Stone counties Sunday to assess damage and released their preliminary findings.
The EF4 tornado hit Izard County one mile northeast of the Larkin community, which is located just to the southwest of Violet Hill, at 9:45. The NWS estimates that tornado had peak winds of 170 miles-per-hour. They say a well constructed home was completely destroyed.
In Stone County, preliminary findings show an EF3 tornado hit the Fifty Six area at 9:18 Friday night. The peak winds were 140 miles-per-hour.
