Personnel are working to contain a fire that started Monday in Marion County. Motorists traveling south of Yellville will need to use caution as traffic is being directed.
According to Marion County Office of Emergency Management Director Melissa Penn, the fire, estimated to be approximately 37 acres in size, started Monday evening near the intersection with Marion County Roads 6035 and 6040 and destroyed a structure. Another fire started Tuesday afternoon further down Road 6040. Personnel responded to the blaze, and they later encountered a rekindled fire from the previous location.
Penn says the high speed of the winds is causing the embers to fly and spread further. Penn says multiple area fire departments, the National Park Service from the Buffalo River and Arkansas Forestry Commission are attempting to contain the blaze.
We’ll have more details when they become available.
