The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission (AGFC) is partnering with North Arkansas College (Northark) to offer unique opportunities for regional high school students and teachers to deepen their understanding of environmental science.

The partner organizations will host a series of one and two day workshops focused on environmental science and conservation education. The events will provide students and teacher with hands-on learning experiences in the outdoors, offering a combination of skill building and academic sessions.

Practical skills such as land navigation, wilderness camping, backpacking, canoeing and more will be discussed in addition to academic focused environmental studies such as Introduction to Botany and Plan Collections, Faunal Surveys for Ozark Aquatic Snails and Crayfish, Introduction to Stream Ecology and Introduction to Cave Ecology.

Workshops are planned to be held in places such as the Fred Berry Nature Center in Yellville, the South Campus of North Arkansas College in Harrison and the Ponca Elk Center in Ponca.

The workshops will be scheduled for early summer with additional announcements and details being shared closer to the date. Students and teachers will be able to sign up through Northark’s website at northark.edu/community-education.
